This laboratory utilizes unused local resources (sawdust, coffee grounds, Japanese distilled liquor waste, yuzu residue, food waste, marine waste, waste tires, waste paint, waste plastics, driftwood, marine plastic waste, etc.). We are developing high-performance carbon materials. The developed carbon material has been applied to positive electrodes for metal-air batteries and electrodes for electric double layer (hybrid) capacitors, and we are working on modularizing and systemizing batteries and capacitors closer to a practical level. Other research themes related to capacitors include the development of diagnostic technology, the elucidation of deterioration mechanisms, the development of eco-run vehicles equipped with fuel cells and capacitors, and the application of capacitors to pseudo-inertial systems in power systems. In joint research with related companies, we have developed technology to suppress sulfation deterioration in secondary batteries (lead-acid batteries), researched ways to extend the life of lead-acid batteries, and regenerated automotive batteries in cooperation with automobile dismantling companies. ・We are also working on research on rebuilding. In recent years, with an eye toward disaster prevention and mitigation, we also developed business card-type batteries that are convenient to carry and can charge smartphones in a few minutes as long as there is water (saliva or urine is also acceptable) in case of an emergency, ensuring a means of communication. We are connected with many universities and companies and are engaged in research and development towards achieving the SDGs.
