In graduation research!

After completing the third-year course “Information Management Project Seminar” (held once a week throughout the year) and successfully advancing to the fourth year, students continue working in the same seminar on their “Graduation Research” (conducted throughout the year on a daily basis). At the same time, they begin using the graduation research laboratory. Our laboratory is located on the 8th floor of Building B. The faculty office and the students’ laboratory room are located next to each other.

Q: What do students assigned to our laboratory do?
A: Students hold each desk and personal computer in the laboratory and work on research activities.

In the graduation research, each student works on a research topic that they have proposed themselves (or that has been assigned to them). They conduct various proposals and experiments, summarize their work in a graduation thesis of several dozen pages, and present their research results at a presentation session held for the entire department. Unlike regular classes, research activities require students to take the initiative in proposing ideas and conducting investigations related to their research topics.
Let's put various ideas out in a comfortable research environment.
Most research activities take place in the laboratory, which uses a free-address seating system. However, the computers installed in the laboratory are mainly high-performance machines used for advanced tasks such as GPU-based computation for generative AI and specialized programming. For regular research work, students use their own laptop computers. As shown in the photo below, each workspace typically has a width of 90–180 cm and a depth of 70 cm, and is equipped with a 23-inch wide display (Full HD, 1920×1080 class). Keyboards and mice are also provided, so by connecting your laptop to the docking station, you can work in a comfortable environment.

Even if you feel the room is narrow, let's use it comfortable.
Our laboratory is not very large, measuring approximately 2.6 meters wide and 10 meters deep. However, we make various efforts—such as creating a relaxation space—to ensure that students can spend their time in the lab as comfortably as possible.

Q: Please tell me more about research activities!
A: English lectures, research surveys, programming, meeting, and etc. are all research activities.

Research meeting.
In our laboratory, we hold a weekly research progress seminar. Students give presentations on their progress so far, their plans for how they intend to proceed with their research, and any difficulties they may be facing. Through discussion during the seminar, we explore possible approaches and solutions to these issues.

We also hold social events such as drinking parties and BBQ gatherings.
