Interactive Evolutionary Computation by Tablet

In our laboratory, we have built a wrist watch design system as an application system for interactive evolutionary computation. This is a system to design various list watches by combining the design parts of the wrist watch as shown below.


Composition and design parts of wrist watch design

The problem with the interactive evolutionary computation system is large user's evaluation burden. To solve this problem, this system adopts unique evaluation method called "Winner-based Paired Comparison (WPC) method". In WPC, like the tournament method, the user selects preferred design from two presented designs. However, WPC is slightly different from the tournament method. In WPC, the design chosen in each round will reach the next round.With this method, users are able to find relevance between each round and make it easier to evaluate.

The actual interface is as follows. The appearance of the interface is important in creating a system. The appearance is influenced by the creator's aesthetic sense and sensibility.

In this system, we have confirmed that users can create satisfactory ones from the result of the evaluation experiment so far.
